Leading zero waste communities and movements

Since 1998, Mother Earth Foundation has helped transform barangay, cities, and regions in the Philippines into decentralized waste management systems compliant with Republic Act No 9003, while advancing integrated approaches to organic waste management, reuse, and refill systems.
WHAT IS ZERO WASTE?

Walang Aksaya

The contextual translation of Zero Waste in the Filipino language. It is a philosophy that encourages the redesign of resource life cycles so that products and materials can be reused, repaired, and recycled. It is inspired by natural systems, where resources are continuously reused and returned to the cycle rather than wasted.

“

We didn't start with a machine.
We started with five women
and a community.

Five women organized neighbors, separated waste, composted, and transformed an empty lot. We started in 1998 in the Philippines, when waste had become part of everyday life in our communities. We worked with communities to address the waste and pollution crisis. Nearly three decades later, we are helping cities across the Philippines build systems that keep waste out of communities, landfills, and our oceans.
